In the presence of Razan AlSalah A STONE’S THROW Canada, Lebanon | 2024 | 40 min | documentary Amine, a Palestinian elder, is exiled twice, from land and labor—from Haifa to Beirut, then to an offshore oil platform in the Gulf. A Stone’s Throw trespasses borders to reveal an emotional and material proximity between oil extraction and labor in the region, and the Zionist colonization of Palestine. The film revisits a moment in Palestinian resistance history, when in 1936, oil workers in Haifa blew up a BP pipeline. Director: Razan AlSalah Production: Sharlene Bamboat A NIGHT WE HELD BETWEEN Palestine | 2024 | 30 min | experimental A Night We Held Between draws inspiration from the ancient legend of the Minoan labyrinth, connecting mythology with Palestine’s current sociopolitical reality. Shot in specific ancient sites across Palestine—caves, carved holes, underground tunnels, and wild valleys—the land and landscape become the true protagonists of the film. Timeless, haunting scenes evoke what has been lost, forgotten, or abandoned. Through repetition and ritual, the film recalls ancestral gestures tied to goddesses, caves, and offerings—gestures that still resonate today and open up collective spaces for expressing ties to land and culture across time and space.
