This program gathers "Palestine Will Win" by Jean-Pierre Olivier de Sardan, considered the first documentary made in solidarity with Palestine, and "To Count On One’s Own Strength", by the Atelier pour un Cinéma de Lutte and Yannis Tritsibidas, to explore the convergence between the Palestinian liberation struggle and that of immigrant workers in France against racism, for decent living and working conditions. 🎤 Screening followed by a discussion with Hugo Darroman (Ph.D. from Aix-Marseille University, specialist in film studies) and Mustapha Mohammadi (activist, former member of the Arab Workers’ Movement) PALESTINE WILL WIN France | 1969 | 28 min | Documentary “Palestine Will Win” is regarded as the first French documentary film made in support of the Palestinian liberation movement. Shot in 1969 in a student dorm, the film blends historical testimonies by Palestinians, photographs, stock footage, maps, and music. The documentary centers on the 1968 Battle of Karameh, while also tracing the complex story of the past five decades of Palestinian resistance against oppression and colonialism. Director: Jean-Pierre Olivier de Sardan TO COUNT ON ONE'S OWN STRENGTH France | 1972 | 52 min | Documentary An overview of the Arab immigrants’ struggles in France and the political mobilisations of the far left in 1972: occupation of empty houses, struggles against racism in daily life and in the factory (such as in response of the murders of Djellali Ben Ali and Gacem Ali), struggles against the production rates and against dismissals particularly in the factory of Renault in Paris where Pierre Overney was a member of the Struggle Committee. His assassination mobilised thousands of people in the largest Parisian demonstrations since May 68, perhaps marking the peak of the leftist movement of the 70s. Director: Atelier pour un Cinéma de Lutte, Yannis Tritsibidas Production: Yannis Tritsibidas 🎟️ Pay-what-you-can admission 🍽️ Food available on site 🐣 Childcare will be provided by festival volunteers during the screening!
