Focus On This Land This year, the festival follows the trail of the seeds, the plant gatherers, and probes in images and sounds the environmental and climatic impacts of colonization. This new edition of the FCP underlines the interweaving of ecological issues and the struggle for the liberation of Palestine. The films that make up the thread of our program criticize the way "scientific expertise" is used by the occupation to justify the grabbing and destruction of land. Sebastia by Dima Srouji Documentary | Palestine | 2020 | 25 min Sebastia, a small archaeological town, sits on top of a hill Northwest of Nablus, Palestine surrounded by Shavei Shomron, an illegal Israeli settlement and confiscated agricultural fields of olive groves and apricot trees. This ancient site was excavated multiple times over the last century by colonial archaeologists funded by Zionist individuals and institutions. Today, what’s left of the archaeological monuments is contested by the nearby settlement as well as the Israeli military. The session is presented by Léopold Lambert (The Funambulist). Letter to a friend by Emily Jacir Documentary | Palestine | 2019 | 43 min A close friend is asked to start an investigation before an inevitable act occurs. Interlacing images, textures, movements, traces, and sounds from over a century, letter to a friend recounts in minute detail a home and street in Bethlehem.
