In his last poem, "If I Must Die", he calls those who should live to create a kite - a long-standing object of resistance. Director: Vincent Guilbert Production of the project Some Strings: Narimane Mari MAWTINI France | 2024 | 25 min | Documentary Marianne meets Julia in Paris in November 2023. Julia is seven years old; she has a Palestinian mother and films her daily life with a camcorder. Her images blend with Marianne's to tell the story of a childhood that tries to remain carefree under the weight of violence experienced from a distance. Director: Marianne Barakat Production: La Fémis FAMILIAR PHANTOMS Palestine, UK | 2023 | 42 min | Experimental “Familiar Phantoms” is an experimental documentary short film about memory, history and trauma. Blending live action, special effects, private family photos and archival footage, the film explores the impact of fiction on the creation and reinterpretation of memory. “Familiar Phantoms” is inspired by anecdotes from my family history and my old childhood in Bethlehem, making it my most personal film to date. Shot in a derelict mansion and a black studio, the film oscillates between slow, fluid exploratory sequences and fast-paced collages of objects, mementos, family photos and Super 8 footage, its visuals and editing mimicking the actual workings of memory, constantly revisiting the same imagery alongside new fragments in search of meaning – while alternating between storytelling and ruminations on memory. (Larissa Sansour) Directors: Larissa Sansour and Søren Lind Production: FVU - Film and Video Umbrella UPSHOT Palestine, Italy, France | 2024 | 34 min | Fiction After suffering unimaginable loss, Suleiman and Lubna retreat to an isolated farm, where they tend to their crops and engage in impassioned debates about their five children's choices - until one day a stranger arrives to reveal a harrowing truth. Director: Maha Haj Production: August Films, Okta Films, Still Moving
